Transforming Trauma with EMDR Therapy for Women
Welcome to Waves Women's Therapy, where our therapists are certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, offering a beacon of hope for women navigating the challenging terrains of trauma. We understand the complexities of trauma, especially in women's lives, and are dedicated to guiding you toward healing and wholeness.
What is EMDR?
EMDR therapy is an evidenced-based trauma treatment. EMDR is a unique and innovative approach to healing from trauma in that it uses bilateral stimulation more than traditional talk therapy. Imagine your brain as a complex filing system where memories are stored. When traumatic events occur, it's like these memories get stuck in the wrong file, causing ongoing distress. EMDR therapy works by helping your brain to reorganize and properly file these troublesome memories.
During sessions, your therapist will guide you through specific eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, such as gentle tapping. This process is believed to kickstart your brain's natural healing process, allowing it to deal with the traumatic memories more effectively. As a result, the intense emotions and discomfort associated with these memories often diminishes, helping you to feel more at peace and in control of your life.
What does the research show?*
~ 65%-75% of EMDR clients no longer meet criteria for PTSD after treatment.
~70% of EMDR clients have moderate to large symptom reduction in PTSD symptoms after treatment.
~75% of EMDR clients have statistically significant reduction in Depression symptoms after treatment.
~85% of EMDR clients show statistically significant reduction in Anxiety and Distress symptoms post treatment.
